Currently there are three different FYI! Initiatives. The host principal, along with the FYI! staff, determine which initiatives are best suited for the school community.
Once a week, all 2nd graders in the school enjoy an FYI! session in their classrooms. There, they discover their voices as instruments, as well as learn – in an engaging way – the fundamentals of choral singing.
FYI! Choir is made up of 3rd, 4th and 5th graders. Through singing, members learn how to read written music and be a part of a choral team. Throughout the year, they have opportunities to experience the thrill of performance.
Designed for K through 1st graders, FYI! Workshops offers children with no singing experience the opportunity to discover the joy of music making. If the FYI! Workshop is held at an FYI! host school, it is led by the FYI! music director as well as FYI! singers.
With additional funding, we hope very soon to launch FYI! Academy.
FYI! Academy would provide a life changing singing experience for one 3rd grade class. It would involve year long, daily musical instruction. In the spirit of a charter school, with an immersion approach, this would be a ground-breaking initiative that would have real and lasting impact on 30 underserved children.
